Easy home improvements that add instant curb appeal

If you are looking to increase the value of your Indianapolis home, you have probably heard of curb appeal. This is the pulling power of your house in visual terms. Apart from selling, improving your home’s curb appeal also makes you have an image of a caring homeowner with the envy of the neighbors. Unfortunately, many people would think improving curb appeal needs a lot of money. This is simply not true. There is much that can be done on a small budget.

Paint your front door

If your door is visible from the curb, brightening it up and the area at the front entrance will give it instant appeal. A contrasting paint will make the door stand out visually. If the home’s colors are bright like white or light tan, paint the door dark blue or black. If the home is grey, make the door bright with red or orange.
A dash of color can be had with potted plants on either side of the door and the steps leading to the door. Consider hanging a decorative wreath on the door. A number plate on the door will also give your door a touch of aristocracy. A welcome mat at the front door also gives the message that your home is welcoming.

Work the lawn and flower beds

A well-manicured lawn is a natural eye attraction. Weeding and cutting the grass regularly will keep the lawn in good shape. Regular watering during the hot season will keep the grass green. Using lawn spray is also an option if you want to impress if you want the perfect green.
Keep your flowers blooming with regular watering, weeding and mulching. Dead flowers should be removed. Keep the colors going with long lasting color flowers like petunias, pansies, and black-eyed Susans.

Power Wash & Clean

Removing the caked-on dirt and grime built up on your home, sidewalks and driveways can work wonders in brightening up these surfaces. A simple power washing can be done by hooking up the garden hose to a washer with the nozzle at lower pressure & higher gallons per minute. Do not neglect windows including window and door frames. Windows should be washed from both sides. A simple solution of soapy water and vinegar will give sparkling streak free windows.

Light it up!

Simple changes in light fixtures can illuminate your garden and home better and brighter for making your home brighter at night. Change builder grade fixtures for newer, more modern fixtures. LED garden lights are brighter with no changes to the electricity bill. Spray paint the bulb holders with a DTM paint instead of buying new ones.
