Balancing both form and function is a time-honored rule of property ownership and management. On the one hand, you want to make sure that whatever property you own is able to fulfill its purposes. On the other hand, a little touch of aesthetic flair never hurts, and can even go a long way toward helping add to the long-term value of your property.
Of the many ways you can add to the aesthetic brilliance and long-term property value of a warehouse, painting is among the most important and, when done right, cost-effective. That said, the question remains–could your warehouse use a fresh coat of paint and, if so, what is the best way to execute that goal?
Signs Your Warehouse Could Use a Once-over
First, when it comes to determining whether or not you need to repaint your warehouse, you’re going to want to determine the last time it was painted. Ideally, you should repaint your warehouse every few years or so. As such, if it’s been five to ten years since your warehouse’s paint job, chances are that it might be time for a touchup. In addition, if you see signs of paint chipping, cracking, or flaking, or if the overall color scheme has faded due to prolonged exposure to the elements, you’re going to want to give it a once-over.
You’ll also want to look into painting your warehouse for reasons of functionality as well as form. For example, several types of paint are mixed with ingredients that can help protect your warehouse against weathering factors. Painting both the inside and outside of your warehouse with these types of paints can give it an invaluable added layer of protection that can improve your warehouse’s lifespan.
Painting Your Warehouse
If you do need to paint your warehouse, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re doing so with the proper paint. In the same way different types of sunblock provide varying degrees of protection against UV radiation, different types of paint afford varying levels of protection against the weathering forces of excessive rain, heat, and everything in between. As such, when selecting paint for use on your warehouse, you’re going to want to make sure that you choose options that not only match the color scheme you choose, but also have a reputation for durability.
From there, all that’s left is the actual painting process. You want to be sure to take all the typical painting precautions here, from laying down protective tarps around the area to protect your pavement or landscaping from inadvertent splattering, to sealing cracks to allow even painting across all areas of your warehouse to create a clean, unified look. In addition, it’s always a good idea to add a layer of transparent, glossy sealant or coating over your paint to help add yet another layer of protection.
Keep your warehouse looking good and in good working order with a proper paint job.
