Owning a warehouse will come with a few significant responsibilities. You will need to properly maintain the building in order for it to be able to stay nice and continue to be used for your purposes. After a period of time, all paint will eventually start to fade. It is normal to have to re-paint your warehouse every so often but it can create a few inconveniences if you aren’t properly prepared.
In order to have the best experience possible, you are going to want to prepare your warehouse for a re-paint ahead of time. Depending on whether your warehouse is empty or in regular use, this could either be fairly simple or somewhat tricky. Either way, if you follow the right advice, you will be able to have success in this endeavor. Simply make sure that all of your preparations are complete before moving forward and your warehouse will look amazing once it is finally re-painted.
Move or Protect the Contents of the Warehouse
In order to make the re-painting as easy as possible, you need to determine what you want to do with the stuff that is inside the warehouse. If your warehouse contains a lot of heavy items, then it may not be simple to move it outside while you are painting. You need to consider the practicality of moving the contents of your warehouse during the painting process. If it isn’t going to work out, then you should try to protect the items instead.
If you can do your best to gather the contents of the warehouse to the middle of the facility, then you can keep the stuff safe from any paint. Ideally, you should be able to move everything as close to the center of the warehouse as you can as this will keep the contents of the warehouse out of the way. Covering all of the items with a large tarp is highly recommended. This will prevent any errant paint from accidentally touching any of this stuff.
Cover the Floor
To avoid spilling paint on the floor, it is ideal to cover it with plastic. Getting large sheets of plastic should be very inexpensive and it will help you to prevent paint from getting on the floor. If you do have paint spill on the floor due to an accident, do your best to get it up right away. If you act quickly, you should be able to remove the paint without too much of an issue.
Sand the Walls
It’s always smart to sand the walls before you start painting. If you want the color to look as nice as possible, then you are going to want to prevent any of the old colors from bleeding through. Sanding the walls shouldn’t take too long, especially if you are using a power sander. Just make sure that you have your warehouse contents covered with a tarp first to avoid getting them messy.
Use a Primer Coat
Depending on how well the sanding went, you may not need to use a primer coat. Regardless, it can be a good idea to use a primer coat ahead of the normal painting process. When you want the colors to come through vividly, primer coats can really make a difference. It shouldn’t add a lot of cost to the process so doing a primer coat is highly recommended.
